For those that get Parade Magazine in your Sunday paper check on pg. 12. For those who don't here's what the ad is about. It's selling a set of 4 nickels. 2 Jefferson nickels (both 50+ years old, one silver) and two Buffalo nickels (one from 1920's, one from 1930's). The price for the set is $5.00 plus $2.50 S&H for ea. set. CA & NY residents need to add sales tax. Ordering info is as follows. By credit card, call 1-800-328-1133. Phone orderers can get a free 1937 Buffalo nickel for $0.99 S&H. To order by check, send check, name, address & zip to: American Family Coin Co., Box 4165, Dept. JR90-PJ, Huntington Station, NY 11746 I have no connection to this company, I'm just passing along this info. Now as a coin collector I'd like to add a couple of comments. From a collector point of view, the price for the set is a bit high for what probably going to get. You might be able to get a Buffalo nickel at a lower price from a local coin shop, especially if you're only looking for 1 Buffalo nickel. However, if you don't have a local coin shop then this isn't a bad way to go. Second, when getting your nickel mounted for your necklace please try to avoid having a hole drilled in it or soldering a bale or loop to the nickel itself. I say this again as a collector because doing this will take any collector value away from the coin. And from an aesthetic point of view, I think a coin looks better in a bezel but that's just my opinion. Hope this info helps. OK Shirl ... a bezel is a ring of metal that goes around the outside of a coin onto which a bale or loop is attached so it can be hung from a chain. A bezel has a slightly recessed channel on the inside that the coin sits down into to keep it from falling out. Most bezels will have a small screw at the top by the loop that allows you to open the bezel so you can insert or remove the coin without damaging it. Most good jewelers should know what a bezel for a coin pendant is and could at least be able to order one for you in either gold or sterling silver. Some coin shops might also be able to steer you in the right direction. Hope this helps and if there are any more questions don't hesitate to ask. Have a great monday everyone, Shirl So far it's been good. BTW, Since we're still on the subject of Buffalo nickels, I keep remebering a saying my grandfather told me when referring to somebody that was extremely miserly with their money. It gos something like this, "They're so tight with their money that they hold on to a nickel until the Indian is riding the buffalo." Until this subject came up, John M. might have been one of the only ones on the list to get the buffalo nickel reference. ;-} Just kidding John. peace, mitch ****************************************************************** * To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@esosoft.com with: * * "unsubscribe etheridge" if you are on the bounce format * * "unsubscribe etheridge-digest" if you are on the digest format * * Official list web site: http://www.ecw.ca/mle/ * ****************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Feb 1997 10:35:27 -0800 From: John Miller Subject: *etheridge* Re: Melissa videos At 09:57 AM 2/3/97 -0500, Kel wrote: >I have seen the latest videos, (NWTG, YLS) but i have never seen ANY >of her old videos. That leaves you with copies of her videos taped off-the-air from VH-1, MTV, MuchMusic, etc... videos many of us on this list have probably copied for our own collections when we had the opportunity. If I ever stop working the 60- 70- and 80-hour work weeks I've had for the last few months, I will be able to start work on the video-tree I mentioned last December... at least two VHS tapes, probably three. I had hoped (and been promised) this unhealthy work schedule would end by mid-January, but it looks like at least another month before I can return to a 'normal' life (whatever *that* is ). But I *am* planning a Melissa video compilation, similar to the 2-tape compilation offered on this list by Elise waaaay back in 1995... thanks to a Canadian lister who provided me with a copy of the EXCELLENT recent MuchMusic 2-part Melissa 'spotlight', this compilation will include many of her early videos (BMSW, SF, LTWID, etc), as well as more recent videos. Stay tuned for more info about this compilation... I'm too overwhelmed with business crises right now (probably another two-to-four weeks) to describe the planned contents now... more later. No temptation to sell it or spend it, cuz it's getting more beautiful all the time, but also because of the hole making it not valuable to coin collectors, and prolly illegal as currency? Oh, well, no turning back now. -marcy ****************************************************************** * To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@esosoft.com with: * * "unsubscribe etheridge" if you are on the bounce format * * "unsubscribe etheridge-digest" if you are on the digest format * * Official list web site: http://www.ecw.ca/mle/ * ****************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Feb 1997 19:11:05 -0600 From: "Anne E. My gf doesn't have the sex drive that I do, exacerbated now that she works nights (and I work 8 to 5), and that has caused us some heartache, but, hey, she's my baby, and I want to be with her above anything else. MLE handed tim a video camera (so she could "save it for posterity"), and he filmed the audience and the band during a couple of numbers. makes me long to see MLE in europe...better start saving those pennies for the 1998 european tour. :-) *rhondda* ****************************************************************** * To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@esosoft.com with: * * "unsubscribe etheridge" if you are on the bounce format * * "unsubscribe etheridge-digest" if you are on the digest format * * Official list web site: http://www.ecw.ca/mle/ * ****************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Feb 1997 21:40:06 -0800 From: "Lady Clergy" Subject: *etheridge* Re: MLE questionnaire At 12:04 PM 2/1/97 +0100, you wrote: >Date: Fri, 31 Jan 1997 12:25:16 EST >From: "DOUG" >Subject: Re: *etheridge* MLE questionnaire >***>* who is the singer / performer *least* like MLE? The second half of your incredible prize from KFOG - a complete autographed Melissa Etheridge CD catalogue. Relive the memories of your front row experience at our 11th Annual Concert for Kids! We hope you 'rocked' and thoroughly enjoyed your front row seats. Thanks for listening to *the* quality rock station - 104.5\97.7, the Bay Area's KFOG!" holy shit! sure enough, i pulled out 5 CDs from the envelope, all autographed by MLE. :-D [insert many yells and whoops and dances of joy right about here] i'm not sure if i completely missed this part of the prize or if this was just a surprise package that KFOG was throwing my way, but, hot f#@king damn, i'm thrilled! [i left a message with their promotions dept. asking about this.] so, to take this to its absolutely absurd level, if i wish real hard for something big - say, something like i wish that MLE would stop by my apartment and give my friends and i a private concert - do you think that would come true, too? ok, maybe i won't go that far... woo-wee! :-D :-D *rhondda* ****************************************************************** * To unsubscribe, send a message to * * majordomo@majordomo.esosoft.com with: * * "unsubscribe etheridge" if you are on the bounce format * * "unsubscribe etheridge-digest" if you are on the digest format * * Official list web site: http://www.ecw.ca/mle/ * ****************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Feb 1997 16:24:29 -0500 From: David Johnson Subject: *etheridge* MLE gossip - may be old news by now (fwd) Subject: MLE gossip - may be old news by now Date: Mon, 24 Feb 1997 11:28:57 -0800 From: "Rhondda L. The life of folk singer, who died from a heroin overdose in 1970, is set to be made into a film later this year. And producers are so keen to make the screen biography a hit they've spent $1.1 million on the rights to use Joplin's 1968 breakthrough hit PIECE OF MY HEART. The licensing fee, paid by LAKESHORE ENTERTAINMENT, is the highest amount ever offered for the movie rights to a song. Producer MARC FRYDMAN explains, "This was a pivotal song for Janis Joplin's career. The price was high because we secured the song exclusively, and that's the song that everyone wanted. Without it you can't do a proper movie about her." Hollywood newcomer MELISSA ETHERIDGE is currently negotiating out a deal to play Joplin in the movie. *rhondda* ****************************************************************** * To unsubscribe, send a message to * * majordomo@majordomo.esosoft.com with: * * "unsubscribe etheridge" if you are on the bounce format * * "unsubscribe etheridge-digest" if you are on the digest format * * Official list web site: http://www.ecw.ca/mle/ * ****************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Feb 1997 17:17:23 -0500 (EST) From: Kelbo60@aol.com Subject: *etheridge* Fwd: Snowjob '96 - --------------------- Forwarded message: Subj: Snowjob '96 Date: 97-02-24 15:12:19 EST From: Kelbo60 To: Etheridge@majordomo.eosoft.com Hello again everyone! First, I will be starting at an advertising agency on Wednesday here in Philadelphia. I am moving up the cooperate ladder of advertising! Second, I was DJing a Sweeheart's Ball put on by Triangle Interests (A lesbian credit union here in Philly) and I met a wonderful woman at the dance. And yes, she did pick up the DJ that night! We have ALOT in common, especially music, and Melissa! She is kinda new to this world, having been married for 25 years and raising 3 children. She has been out now for just 3 years. Dave and Glenna had waved their magic wand and all was set right with the world! She also said (somewhere, don't ask me for refs or a bib!) that this is her most sexual song. Just to recap a few of the controversial points: "we all wanted this"...."you'll have some explaining to do" Is it two....or THREE....people here? What's going on? And, of course, the lingering permanent and proverbial whoisinthetaxi? (BTW, I think it's been almost a list requirement -- certainly an expectation -- that *anyone* who gets a chance should ask MLE the last question....even though now we know she won't answer it!) Personally, and as I said last winter, *I* think there are mini-blinds *IN* the taxi! Is this the nature of the debate of whence you speak? ;) Patti Fink pattif@iadfw.net "Question: If you could live forever, would you and why? Answer: I would not live forever, because we should not live forever, because if we were supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we cannot live forever, which is why I would not live forever." - Miss Alabama in the 1994 Miss Universe contest ****************************************************************** * To unsubscribe, send a message to * * majordomo@majordomo.esosoft.com with: * * "unsubscribe etheridge" if you are on the bounce format * * "unsubscribe etheridge-digest" if you are on the digest format * * Official list web site: http://www.ecw.ca/mle/ * ****************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Feb 1997 14:38:22 -0500 (EST) From: JLEBAILLIF@edinboro.edu Subject: *etheridge* Happy to Read Everyone Again and "AUK" Hello all, Soooo glad to be back. And that means that I get at least one email every day. Rhondda: Great for you to get those CD`S !!! Though I guess you did allready have them all and all that counts for you now is the almost unreadable "writing" on them. ;) I hope that everyone who sended me an envelope with two US $ got his ME-string now. And for those of you who sended me a postcard until last November and didn`t know that I have enough strings for every postcard-sender now please contact me and you will get one ,too. I got about twenty strings from Melissa`s guitar last December. Joyce: From all that I read yet, it seems that you really did a GREAT job on that biography !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to know what Melissa herselfe thinks about it, but it won`t be easy to get to know that. Now that Bailey Jean Cypheridge is born I asked myselfe if we all couldn´t find something we could send the parents and the child as a very nice birthday present. I myselfe had the great chance to give Melissa before the Sacramento show in December my personal present for the three and she told me a few days later that she really liked it. Ofcourse, what else would you tell someone who made you a present but anyway it seemed very true for me. Melissa and Julie got from me a wooden made mobile for the children room. It shows a cute blue moon with a yellow pointed cap and five or six blue clouds around him. Thees mobiles are made by handicapped and it is about the fith which I gave friends who got a newborn(in this case someone who´s music means alot to me and was allways very kind to me) as a present. But away from my personal present. On that day I also gave Melissa her birthday CD-Rom which Jesse sended me and as I allready told you she seemed really happy to get such an international present from her fans from accross the world. So now, I think, we have a new reson to surprise her ?! What Do you all think ??? Any ideas ??? Something unique ??? Something big ??? Something small ??? I love the idea of something selfmade on which many, many , many ... worked on. I truly missed it. Before the list died, I saw a note about another book about Melissa. It's by Chris Nickson (a music journalist based in Seattle). The title is "Melissa Etheridge, the Only One" for $11.95. The book is also mostly quotes, but he also included some of his own thoughts. He seems to be a fan and there are no cheap shots. It has 4 pages of B&W photos including several candid shots of Melissa and Julie together. He didn't do the research Joyce did and there are several booboos probably only us Melissa nuts would notice, but it is worth the money. I ordered it thru BDalton and it came in about 2 days. Regarding "An Unusual Kiss", I thought the person in the taxi was Melissa. But listening a little closer, Melissa asks the other person not to leave at the beginning of the song. The lyrics imply this person is "new", but "my baby" draws the shade. Melissa + New + My Baby = three. What do you think? Sheryl's opening act was The Wallflowers, whose lead singer, Jakob Dylan, is Bob Dylan's son. (Their song, 'Sixth Avenue Heartache,' has been getting quite a bit of airplay in our area.) I ended up really enjoying their portion of the show. Sheryl, (my second fav artist after MLE) put on a great show; she was in top form that night and her voice was right on the mark. She mentioned that she wrote the song, "Redemption Man" (it's on her latest CD) after she returned from a recent trip with Hillary Clinton to Bosnia. Speaking of the Clintons, right before Sheryl took the stage, Jen & I had managed to wiggle and waggle our way up to the second floor balcony to an open space behind a section that was roped off. The group of people in that reserved section were all sporting special VIP Guests of the 9:30 Club stickers so we figured they had won tickets from a radio station or something. To make my long story ramble even further (g), at one point someone in the reserved section yelled something and Jen asked me what they had said... I shrugged and replied, "I dunno, sounded like they called someone's name, Chelsea or something." The next morning I read a review of the show, and don't 'cha know that Chelsea Clinton and her buddies were the ones standing right smack in front of us. Of course I hadn't noticed at the time because I was too busy gawking at Sheryl in her shiny black pants belting out her songs. Now Sheryl is one female rock star who can definitely get away with wearing leather pants or even goldlamesomethingorother pants (TM) and look fantastic... Hey everyone, At the record store I work at, we just got in a used copy of a 3-disc promotional CD from Island Records called "If This Were A Radio, It Would Sound Like The Future." This Has a 10 minute live version of ME's LTWID. Does anyone know if a 10 minute (10:03 to be exact) version of this exists anywhere else??? The Promo itself is rather bizarre. It's from 1989 and the first CD is a collection of I suppose *new* rock artists, the second is of new "street" music artists, and the 3rd is of "world" music artists. I say *new* because I've never heard of 90% of them before. The only other person that has done anything off the "Rock" CD was U2 (which the song title I forget). Bravo!! I was walking listless through my days without you all! Not to worry now!! :) OK, now for the yap.....a quick round of congratulatory applause to Melissa and Julie on the arrival of Bailey Jean!! (Great name! I like it!) We will all, of course, never forget this time when the list was down JUST as MLE becomes a mom!! Great conversation piece though, dontcha think? Now we'll forever be asking, "So, where were you and what were you doing when YOU found out about the baby?" I'm proud to say that my cousin-in-law, Connie , called me from Austin DURING THE DAY that Monday with the good word!! And then the avalanche of spurious private emails flooded in and out of my box all day!! :) More list lore... Onward... Jacki Mendes posed and pondered: >I was hoping that you guys would be able to settle an >argument between my friend and I. I recall the heated debate about a year ago over this very issue!! And guess what?!...We had to leave it with several different interpretations and NO definitive answers! So don't expect to win or lose with your friend! ;) Indeed, at the Dallas concert in November, Melissa stated prior to AUK, "I've got 50 songs now....49 I'll talk about, but this one, well, you figure it out." She also said (somewhere, don't ask me for refs or a bib!) that this is her most sexual song. Just one of many things I love about Rhondda (hi, sweetie!). ---- Re; the Linda Perry show... it was the second time I've seen Linda Perry perform, and both times I have enjoyed her... to my ear she has problems with (for want of a better term) 'pitch control', that is, she has trouble hitting notes correctly, often singing 1/4 tone flat... perhaps it's all her smoking (she's one of the few musician's I've seen who smoke on-stage while in the middle of a song... Joni Mitchell still shocks me when I see *her* doing this)... or perhaps Linda just doesn't have a trained voice. But Linda clearly has fun performing, and I enjoy her stage presence. When I met Linda after her December in-store performance, she was polite, even charming (though I was *not* wearing a Melissa t-shirt ), and she spent several minutes speaking with me while she signed posters... not at all what I expected after reading recent interviews. I think she's shooting herself in the foot with her rude comments about Melissa (or any other artist)... I don't believe criticizing one's peers, especially a prominent musician like Melissa, is good PR... but that has no bearing on my views of her singing and songwriting. I *like* Linda's latest release, more with each listening, and other musicians appear to have respect for her skills... Grace Slick appears on one track of Linda's latest (Grace is in the best form I've heard in years), and Linda Perry shares songwriting credits with Janis Ian for one song on Janis Ian's 1995 'Revenge' album... Linda also produces a great local all-women band called 'Stone Fox'. It's nice to be back in touch with everyone. I know this topic faded before the list went down, but I found a source for buffalo nickel jewelry and wanted to share it with anyone who is interested. I found this company at a home/garden show in Rockland County (NY). I was actually there to meet the Furniture Guys, who I love and think are an absolute riot. (NMEC: They are two guys who have a great sense of humor and make hysterical obscure references while they refinish and reupholster furniture. Their show, "Furniture To Go"/"Furniture On The Mend," is on TLC and WLIW, a PBS station out of Long Island.) Anyway, I came upon a stand with all these coins on chains and the woman there told me they have almost any coin in almost any year. She happened to be carving out a buffalo nickel as we were talking, so I waited for her to finish and bought it. Everything is carved out but the buffalo and the rim of the coin, so I basically have a buffalo grazing in a circle. It's kinda sad, though, to see the mutilated Indian head on the back. (They'll also leave it intact and just put a chain on it if you want. This way you can get a significant year.) I haven't taken it off since I bought it and have gotten a lot of compliments on it, even from a few people who aren't into MLE and don't know the coin's "significance." And, if I do say so, I've gotten a compliment or two on the way I make it "roam." ;) Cut Coin Jewelry Hill Top Products PO Box 450 Greentown, PA 18426 Fax, 717-676-9777 It's good to be back. The copy of The Bottom Line Concert I have was recorded off the radio about 3 generations or more ago and besides the fact that it is missing the encore, it has gaps in the middle of a couple of songs. So, I would like to obtain a better copy. Please email me privately if you can help me out. Thanks very much, Lisa E. :) mktc017@usa.mercedes-benz.com ****************************************************************** * To unsubscribe, send a message to * * majordomo@majordomo.esosoft.com with: * * "unsubscribe etheridge" if you are on the bounce format * * "unsubscribe etheridge-digest" if you are on the digest format * * Official list web site: http://www.ecw.ca/mle/ * ****************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Feb 1997 12:16:39 -0500 From: Jacki Mendes Subject: *etheridge* AUK, again! marcy... Patty the Lone Wrangler has been willing to show me around the town. don't know how it would compare to the John's BAB Tour but I'm sure The Lone Wrangler will find something to entertain me. Would be cool to meet some listers while I'm there. Well, Shirl, old buddy old pal, the Chicago listers are gonna have to figure something out to strip me of the "Quiet and Reserved" title before you can get to change yours :o) Catch you all later, Melanie ****************************************************************** * To unsubscribe, send a message to * * majordomo@majordomo.esosoft.com with: * * "unsubscribe etheridge" if you are on the bounce format * * "unsubscribe etheridge-digest" if you are on the digest format * * Official list web site: http://www.ecw.ca/mle/ * ****************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Feb 97 10:07:20 MET From: (A.
