They have shown to be a good musical couple in concerts and I love their sound. YLS was getting very close to what I think it's the perfect Melissa sound. I hear the Never Enough (my favorite album so far) influences in YLS and I'm expecting a wonderful new album. So to me it's good news John is doing the co-producing. I personally am looking forward to the new CD. The fact that John Shanks is co-producing does not stifle my enthusiasm for the new CD or for the tours that I hope will follow. I am one of the few who think that Melissa and John work well together ( I know that many of you out there do not like John for your own reasons). I enjoy their stage presence. I also think that John is talented and that he adds and does not subtract from Melissa's performance. Although being the fan that I am, I would go see Melissa perform if she was alone and performing in a garage somewhere. Now there's a thought. I am happy for Julie and Melissa with the news of their new arrival. I would like to pick Nov 11th for the birth date. I happened to be friends with a woman who spent some time with Ellen many years ago in New Orleans, who told me Ellen would never "come out" because of the damage it would do to her career. Listening to her speak last night about the tipping of the scales in her life from protecting her fame to protecting her happiness was wonderful. I have to admit, although it was cool to see the kinds of day to day troubles some of us actually endure, played out on prime time TV every week, it did start to lose something in the way of humor. It really wasn't quite as funny as it was over the first 4 years, IMHO. But I sat dedicated every week to see what new story I could relate to. Well I'm not sure I'm looking to see the condition of my toes :-) I can say I'm alittle confused as to how I'm an unfamilar company and you're not? The company I'm dealing with owns the CD I think their familiar and trustworthy. As for the wait - I don't have the resources to pre pay for 50 Cd's and wait for ppl to send me their money. I thought that running this the same way as the shirts would work well. I would like to point out that these CD are all originals still sealed not a computer generated CD-R. Not that the sound quality is any different but there are ppl who prefer the originals. Of course anyone would rather deal with Kay please feel free. My girlfriend and I were watching the interview last night and that's similar to what I was saying. Some of the "in" jokes were funny (in a way), but to most people out there watching they were totally cryptic! I think many GAY people may not have gotten some of the jokes and references. I found myself laughing, just cause I've heard a lot of the cliche's, etc.- but to the average person, no way. Sometimes my SO had no clue what I was laughing at and I had to explain stuff to her... I admire Ellen a LOT for everything she has done, but some of her actions and comments I disagree with. LDP's interview was interspersed with several shots of MLE and JC appearing at various events. the 2 things that were news to me were: 1) according to LDP, JC told LDP 20 minutes before he was due to report to the movie set (he didn't state which movie) that she had slept with MLE. initially, they tried to patch things up, but it didn't work out. 2) LDP stated that he and JC don't talk anymore, because of his past appearance on HS's show. Yeah.... I drove down to Memphis from Michigan for MLE's concert, which was literally a couple days after "The Letter U" aired on Sesame Street. I met up with a few from the list and many of us went to a local drug store to get some poster board--in hot pink. And we made some Us. I held mine up for every song until she finally made a comment about them. How our arms would get tired holding them up for a long time. And because so many of us were holding up these hot pink Us above our heads during the concert, she explained to the audience, "For those of you that don't know ...." and she explained how she was on Sesame Street and stuff. If you remeber the MEIN travel package for MLE's last 2 dates in LA California a couple of years ago.... My partner, lover, and best friend was the most ultimate MLE fan.... I wanted to impress my lover by giving her the LA trip as a christmas present. Of course in the back of my mind I also wanted my lover to meet the women of her dreams (MLE)... but I am a realistic person and simple hoped for the best. My lover was knocked over when I gave her the plane tickets and the itinerary for our christmas romp in LA. She was very happy.... So off to LA we went... we left snow in New England and landed into 75 degree weather in California.... The warmth felt great! We were impressed with our room in The West Hollywood Holiday Inn... we met other fans like ourselves and even met some folks who only lived a few minutes away from us in New England.... imagine the world gets wicked small after stuff like that. The bus ride to San Diego was longer than anticipated... We had 4th row seats which were way off to one side but MLE was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bus ride was equally long going back to LA but the memory of the show was great........ The following day we cruised West Hollywood.... did the Sunset Strip thing.... and gathered with the rest of the MEIN group to go to MLE's last show for 2 years because of the baby.... Anticipation was high... we had not been given our seat assignments yet..... We were all very, very, excited. My lover and myself were lucky to get 2nd row seats with our chairs being exactly in front of the center of the stage.... Imagine the view you get from there........... I managed to smuggle a cheapy camera in with me... how could I possible resist.... no one would believe me if I lost my ticket stub! My lover swore to love me forever..... Bonus #1! Well the show went on ........the music was great........... Anyone who had been to a MLE concert knew that there was 2 stages... the front and the mid arena stage... It was customary for folks to fill in the front of the big stage when the band went to perform on the mid-arena stage... I sent my lover front and center so she would be right at MLE's feet when MLE got back to the main stage to finish her show. As expected my lover was right under MLE for the whole last set. I stood from my 2nd row chair and watched my lover as she swayed in ectasy as her goddess swooned from above her. As the show came to an end after the usual encores and words of thanks and appreciation, MLE and her band started their last song.... ya know, if I heard it I could tell you........ Well as the last chords were being played, MLE draped herself over the crowd front and center..... She actually hugged a half a dozen fans who were there under her feet.... my lover was one of the lucky souls to put her hands around MLE's waist... My lover said she was soft and smelled great. She mentioned that she even got some MLE sweat on her shirt.... She has not washed that shirt since... I was what seemed a million miles away in tears... I had made a dream come true for my lover..... I was very happy, my lover was in a daze all the way home to Massachusetts.... The memory seems like yesterday..... My little cheapy camera failed to take the all impressive picture.... it had run out of film......... I was sixth row or so back at one venue in CT (either the Palace in New Haven or the Bushnell in Hartford) where Etheridge knelt down by the edge of the stage during one song. The fans at the edge reached out for her. I think they just touched her at first, but it looked like she was in danger of being hurt or pulled off the stage after a bit. I think both the bassist (can't remember his name) and Shanks came forward, and looked like they were ready to throw down their instruments to pull her out. I vaguely remember there being a copy of an early Jones Beach show where someone (apparently drunk) got onto the stage with her and threw his/her arms around MLE. When security tried to drag the stage hopper off, Etheridge went too. With a potential purchase of PolyGram -- home to Irish rock bandU2 and pop star Elton John -- Seagram's music-loving chiefexecutive, Edgar Bronfman Jr., is hoping to transform theCanadian spirits and entertainment conglomerate into the world'sleading record company. Industry sources said a deal to buy PolyGram, valued at about $12billion, could unravel on price just as talks between Seagram andmusic giant EMI Group Plc apparently did. One industry source familiar with Seagram said, "I'm hearing thatSeagram is keeping its options open," adding that Seagram wasstill looking at both music companies seriously. Bronfman reportedly floated an offer of $7.7 billion for EMI,which was below its asking price, before EMI last weekannounced it ended talks with a potential suitor. Talks betweenSeagram and Philips Electronics NV, owner of a 75 percent stakein PolyGram, have subsequently picked up speed. To make an estimated $12 billion purchase of PolyGram feasible,Bronfman likely would need to cut back on payrolls and artists.PolyGram currently controls about 17 percent of the world's musicmarket. "There's a lot of synergies and a lot of opportunities for costsavings," said Steve Cesinger of Greif & Co. While cuts will likely occur at the administrative level, manyhigh-level executives also would be shown the door. "The people who would lose would be high-dollar individuals atexecutive ranks with multimillion-dollar paychecks. It doesn't takea lot to cut the bottom line," Cesinger said. PolyGram president Alain Levy was apparently excluded fromPhilips' talks with Seagram, and the industry veteran is widelyexpected to get a buyout offer if the deal goes through. Alternatively, sources cited rumors that Levy was trying toorganize a management buyout of PolyGram, but it was doubtfulhe could get the backing for a deal of this size. Cutbacks and defections are not unusual for the music industry,which has seen a tremendous amount of downsizing sinceindustry-wide sales began to stagnate a few years ago. "People are attracted to the glamor of record companies, but weworry about these takeover bids," he said, citing concerns aboutpressure on the acquirer to turn quarterly profits. Do they really understand this market, and willthey give their record companies the time and support they need tonurture acts and follow through," he said. Indeed, some stars may feel put off by the merger frenzy, leadingto lawsuits and defections, such as a widely publicized 1992 suitby singer George Michael. Michael, who was signed to CBS Records before it was acquiredby Sony Corp. in 1992, filed for a "divorce" from the electronicsand entertainment giant because he had no confidence in itsunderstanding of the creative process. I think the deal with Seagrams is a little iffy as of today's news. You never know what will happen to the artistic support when huge multinationals get involved in the music biz. I too was watching (and recording) Ellen's last episode tonight - and was disappointed. I didn't laugh much - was that just me? I'm sure Ellen will go on to do other funny things, and I'm grateful for the fact that the show was on at all (my life on TV, yada yada).
